My new toy

Monday, March 27, 2006
So, I bought a new toy. It's still charging, so I haven't really played with it yet, but I'm pretty darn excited about it.

Check it out here. Cool eh? And a totally awesome deal considering it's $360 at the store formerly known as Radio Shack.

So now, I need to load it up with music, and I confess to being a little muscially challenged. My deep dark secret? I was twelve before I realized that the music I was listening to was thirty years out of date.

I have my favourites, but I like the mellow stuff, a little James Blunt, Michael Buble, Barenaked Ladies, stuff like that there. The thing is, I bought it to get my fat ass on the treadmill. So I need stuff that I can work out to. Something upbeat, something fun, something that'll keep me moving.

So I'm putting it out to the blogosphere? What's good to walk to? I'm looking for music that'll put a bounce in my step that'll keep me moving.

I subscribed to the Yahoo Unlimited Music Engine, so anything is fair game, at least for the next two months of my free trial. :)

  • I LOVE my MP3 player for working out at the gym!!! It's been so much easier to get there and to stay there longer because of this precious little gadget! :-> Some stuff in my "Working Out" playlist: Sheryl Crow (early years), classics like "I Will Survive", "Alive and Kicking", "Angel of Harlem", "Cecelia", etc. Some Cranberries, JLo, Bryan Ferry, Gloria Estefan, Ashley MacIsaac, Dixie Chicks, Billy Idol, Madonna, Philosopher Kings, Nelly Furtado, Ace of Base, Nickelback, etc. Gwen Stefani's solo album as well as the No Doubt albums are great for workouts. Kylie Minogue is good too.

Good luck - I'm sure you'll find lots of good tunes to get you all jazzed up and ready to work out!

  • heh, I can't listen to the Philosopher Kings without remembering grade 12 drama class, which I had with Gerald Eaton (or Jarvis Church, or what ever he's calling himself these days :) ). First, he had to kiss me in a scene from a Tennessee Williams play, then in another he had to pick me up chanting "blah, blah, blah penis." It was a very odd play *grin* But it still gives me a giggle when I hear him on the radio.

  • Ooh, exciting!

I like the Rolling Stones, Sheryl crow, OutKast, and R&B (whatever has a good beat).

I only wish that my ipod inspired me to work out more!

  • Some favorites for me to listen to while walking (also good for cleaning the house): "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie; "We Got the Beat" by the Go Gos (actually almost everything off their first album is good for walking); "Here Comes Your Man" by The Pixies; "American Girl" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers; and "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure.

I have most of these saved to a playlist on my iPod, just for walking around the block. Which is infinitely easier when the weather is nice. :)

  • Nice player! I bought my wife a little iRiver for her birthday last year, and she loves it. As a geek, I bought it because iRiver is a consistently top rated brand.

I walk to work every day with my iPod. Tori Amos, Frou Frou and Chicane seem to have beats that work well for walking. And they inspire me to think...which is the whole point of the walking thing in the first place.

  • my workout would be lost without my iPod!

the walking music thing kind of depends on how fast you walk. i find that i unconsciously adjust my speed for whatever the beat of the song is so i try to only load really fast tempo songs.

    feel good inc - gorillaz
    pretty vegas - INXS
    black pearl - brian adams
    crash - gwen stefani
    when - shania twain
    do somethin' - britney spears
pump it - black eyed peas
this is how a heart breaks - rob thomas

these are just a few of my walking songs. :)
